In this post I want to tell you about a source of traffic that is generally overlooked by most internet marketers. In fact if you were to go to somewhere like the warrior forum and ask for advice on using safelists you would get a very negative response and quickly form the opinion that safelists are a junk traffic source that doesn’t deliver results.

Today I want to turn this negativity on its head and share with you the reasons why I love safelists and how I am able to generate hundreds of new leads for my online business using them.

Understand the market

Before you do any sort of marketing you need to understand what sort of traffic you will get, and ideally what type of product / service would perform well. For example before you set up an adwords campaign you would research which keywords to target and how much it will cost, and what research the type of landing pages being used by the other people advertising via adwords in your niche.

With safelists the traffic is generated by other safelist members clicking a link in their email. The most popular safelists work on a credit system, so the people clicking these links are doing it to generate credits so they can get their own advertisement out to as many people as possible.

What this means is that you will have ~ 10 seconds to make an impression on the visitor. Put yourself in the position of this safelist user and think about what would make you look up from the task of clicking all these credit links?

How Can You Grab The Visitors Attention?

The people who claim that safelists are rubbish are advertising the wrong things…

Do you really think you can sell the latest “product of the month” within 10 seconds to someone who’s thinking about the next site before the one you’re promoting has even loaded in the browser?

I really hope you have realised that the answer to that last question is no!

So to be successful with safelists you need to have a splash page that will load in under a second, summarise exactly what you are selling and smack the reader between the eyeballs with your call to action.

Give The People What They Want

Even if you have followed the above step a brillaint landing page on the best way to breast feed your baby is not going to work. Sure some people may be new parents but the 99.9% who aren’t will not be interested.
People clicking the safelist credit links are looking for 2 things.

#1 More Traffic
#2 A Way Of Turning This Traffic Into Money

So if you happened to have a free report called “7 Ways to Turn Your Safelist Credits into Cold Hard Cash” or “How To Generate Leads For ‘ACME MLM’ Using Safelists” it’s something that should interest the reader.

It Is All About ListBuilding

Like all other forms of internet marketing the purpose of using safelists is to generate traffic to your lead capture page, get them to enter their details, make them an offer, build a relationship through follow-up, and make more offers.
The beautiful thing about safelist marketing is that you have all you have to do is advertise your product to a steady stream of internet marketing newbies. The owner of the safelist has already spent time and money advertising in places where new internet marketers hang out, so all you have to do is to press send.

Remember that just simply by having your own opt-in page online you will already be an expert in the eyes of these newbies.

Don’t Forget The Chance To Network

We are living in the digital age where social networking is now commonplace.
When I’m clicking for my safelist credits I actually take a note of the affiliate pushing any programmes / services and try to find them on facebook. If this person is actively marketing on facebook and safelists they are exactly the type of person that I want to be networking with.

There are some marketers who offer no value to their subscribers and they just seem to abuse the privilege of being able to put a message into someone else’s inbox. While I am a marketer who offers products and services on a regular basis via email every single broadcast email I send goes out with the intention of helping my subscribers and this is how you should operate online.

Then there are the marketers who spend more time on their sales copy than creating a quality product. They don’t mind spending $15,000 on a top copywriter but only spend $500 on a half assed script that doesn’t work properly. I tend to spend weeks, sometimes months and on 2 occasions even years on creating my products as I want them to be the best they can be.

There are also marketers who look at a jv/affiliate page just to see what they can earn in commissions and prizes and they mail out without even checking out the product they are promoting. Hows that for looking after your subscribers?

I don’t know about you but I know that everything I do is done with respect for my subscribers and customers.

I feel I am doing the right thing.

And because I like doing the right thing I have no problem sending you to check out a product where I will receive no reward at all.

I’ve been running a few Warrior Special Offers (WSO’s) lately and let me tell you that if this is something you are not doing you need to start, as I have quite frankly been shocked by the results.

I mean just take a look at the latest WSO I have running.

This is a $5 product that’s making all this money, who would have thought it?

After running a few WSO’s there are a few things I have noticed and a few things you must do if you want to make your WSO a success.

First of all your WSO must be outstanding value. My last WSO was 12 months worth of training for only $5, the usual price was 12 monthly payments of $47. You’d think I was crazy to do this but I’ve made more from the $5 offer than the $47pm offer. So make sure you provide outstanding value with anything you put together. I have also found $5 to be the magic price point so if you can come up with a $5 offer with an upsell (more on upsells later) you are onto a winner. Great WSO’s are usually:-

• Heavily discounted products. (Look at your existing products)
• New methods or secrets.
• Easy to follow guides.
• Action plans. (Step by step)
• Services such as copywriting or traffic generation.
• Software, plugins, automation tools, etc.
• Simple $5 reports. (Anyone can do this)

Basically if you can come up with something that will help others then it can be turned into a successful WSO.

Affiliate your WSO. To make your WSO truly successful requires the efforts of others. While you will make sales from the Warrior Forum traffic the key is to get affiliates on board so make sure your WSO has an affiliate program. Also make sure you create an effective affiliates page. You can see one of mine for ideas here. Your affiliate program can be an in house program or even ClickBank, there is also WSO Pro which is a highly popular tool that integrates with the Warrior Forum and it is very very effective, it also uses PayPal and pays affiliates instantly so it makes promoting products attractive for affiliates as they know they will be paid right away.

One thing I am still not too sure of is the fact WSO Pro uses a split payment system, meaning that PayPal payments are split between the affiliate and vendor, so in effect you can receive a payment for someone else’s product. I am yet to be convinced this is a safe thing to do with PayPal so for now I’ve been using my own in house program and ClickBank, however WSO Pro is so attractive I may consider it with a future WSO.

Sidenote! I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on Split Pay and if it’s ever caused you any problems so if you have anything to add to this please leave a comment.

Have an upsell. If you have a low priced frontend offer most of the money will be made on the backend, with my latest WSO I offer a $97 and then a $67 product after the initial purchase. Also having an upsell attracts more affiliates as they know there is the potential to earn more than just the frontend sale. BTW, you must reward affiliates for any upsells you sell after the initial offer.

Upsells can be enhanced versions of your frontend offer, a collection of existing products, a monthly membership service (affiliates love recurring commissions) or even resale/PLR rights to the frontend product.

Make sure you build a list from your WSO as this is the ultimate buyers list. WSO buyers are generally people who want to succeed and are willing to pay to do so. If you can build a list of Warrior Forum buyers then you are building a list that can go on to reward you well into the future. One piece of advice here, if you are forcing people to opt-in to receive their purchase, say so on your sales page. I personally never force my customers to opt-in. I let them choose to register for updates and most do.

If I can leave you with any advice it is this. WSO’s are a fantastic way to make money and if it’s something you aren’t doing, I’d advise you to start now. I have many more WSO’s planned, and I’m also working on a ‘How to Succeed With WSO’s’ product, more on this at a later date.

I’m often asked if writing for a living is as easy as it sounds or is it simply one of those hyped up methods of making money that looks good when it is being described on a business opportunity sales page but when it comes to reality you will be literally banging your head against a brick wall.

Well, if you are interested in earning money in this way you actually have to work. No getting away from that fact so if you are one of those people who are looking for a way to make money which involves not actually doing anything then you would be well advised to look elsewhere.

Now that we have got that out of the way let’s look at the writing opportunity itself. To start with, many people feel intimidated and think that their writing skills will not be good enough to be able to sell their services so let’s put that into perspective before we go any further.

Let’s say that you begin to offer a writing service and you charge $10 for a 500 word article. I always recommend that you start off by writing about subjects that you are familiar with and please don’t tell me that you are not familiar with any subject well enough so you can write about it because you are.

Think of your job if you have one, your interests, your favorite TV programs, football team, etc, etc. There is a massive demand for all types of writing and it would be a safe bet that you will be able to write about various subjects with ease. By writing about subjects such as this you will cut down on any research time which will equate to you earning more money.

Now, at $10 per 500 words you are not expected to write a literary masterpiece but as long as the article is spelt correctly and is correctly formatted you will find that the service that you offer will be in great demand.

The main thing to remember when you offer your services as a writer, apart from checking that your work is OK, is to always deliver on time and keep in contact with your clients. Something might happen which will cause a delay, family problems for instance, but instead of hoping that your client will not notice that you are late with the order, let them know what is happening. You will find that the vast majority will be grateful that you have told them what is going on and will not have a problem with it.

So, now all of that is out of the way, is writing for a living as good as it sounds. The answer to that question is a resounding ‘Yes’. You do a job and you get paid for it, as simple as that. If you are writing about a subject you are familiar with you can easily earn $100 before lunchtime.

With a little practice you can push that up to $200, five days a week with the afternoons off and you have earned $1000. What’s more, as long as you have an Internet connection you can work from anywhere in the world and you will be truly living the ‘Internet lifestyle’

Rant Alert! Stop reading if you don’t like being told how it is.

As you probably know I’ve teamed up with Omar Martin and over the last few days we’ve been promoting Mike Filsaime’s Evergreen Business System.

I’ve had a few interesting replies from the emails I’ve sent out, look what Bill had to say.

Not sure if you’ll get this or not, but you and I had and exchange a few weeks ago via email. I had commented on your rant post (http://planetsmsblog.com/the-state-of-the-im-industry) and named a marketer in order to give an example of what I thought was unethical behavior.

Looking at the EBS system, it looks like part of what I was complaining about (a pre-recorded webinar dishonestly being presented as live) is this year big launch! Its exactly what EBS does.

It may be this industry is not a good fit for me after all…

I find this software to be totally unethical and downright dishonest. Trying to make people believe that they are at a live webinar. It doesn’t sit right with me. And I was agreeing with your recent ‘rant’ about honesty what happened?

I also had more people unsubscribe than usual so it seems that this software is causing quite a stir as some people are seeing it as unethical. Most people seem to think your presenting a pre-recorded webinar as a live event.

You don’t pitch anything pre-recorded as a live webinar at all. You pitch it as a presentation, an event, nothing unethical goes on and Mike doesn’t teach you to present this as ‘live’. I would never use this to ‘pretend’ to be live when using this, it just wouldn’t work and it’s also dishonest. If you are thinking like this then you obviously haven’t took the time to check this out properly.

Unlike a live event, when someone chooses to watch your presentation at a time that suits them, they are in the right frame of mind to listen to what you have to say. This is because they decided what time to watch your presentation. You didn’t force them to make a decision as you would do with a live event so you get their full attention.

This is the main point I want to put across, you are not forcing your potential customers to watch at your desired time, you are letting them watch at their desired time and this is why conversions with this type of marketing are so high.

Once again I must point out that this is not about tricking people into thinking something is live. It’s about putting together a presentation and turning it into an event that can be played at a time that suits your prospect, and there’s nothing unethical about it.

Also, when an event is live things can go wrong, I personally know this from experience. There are also usually pauses and other imperfections (I tend to say erm a lot) so by preparing your presentation in advance you can get rid of any imperfections and seriously improve the quality of the session thus improving the whole experience for the attendee.

If you still think this is unethical let me ask you this? Is it unethical to use an autoresponder sequence that is pre programmed to send emails on Day 1 … Day 2 … Day 3 of a subscription, is that dishonest as well? Shouldn’t you manually send these emails? What about using the {firstname} tag to make the reader think that your email is personal, surely that is unethical too? Well this is no different.

At the end of the day this software is revolutionary and it seems to be making a big splash and some people will use it in an unethical manner and pitch recordings as live but those people will get found out. People like myself will use this software in an ethical way and will make tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars from it, mostly on autopilot.

Now it’s time for me to be brutally honest with you.

If you don’t have $500 to invest or you still think this is an unethical way of marketing don’t buy it. If you don’t think you’ll take action and actually put this to good use then stay away, but please don’t criticize people who do use it.

However, if you think the Evergreen Business System can help you move forward and actually make you some money then buy it, try it for 30 days and if it’s not for you ask Mike for a refund.

I’m going to end this post by telling you this.

I will be using the Evergreen Business System to take my business forward, I expect it to help me make hundreds of thousands of dollars in a very short space of time.

I’m not sure I’ll ever go into the marketing niche again – the whole scene sickens me to be honest but you – you will remain, along with Randy Smith, as the ONLY people I have come across online (in that niche) who I feel are  REAL, trustworthy people.

Everyone else I have met (and I have paid some of them a LOT of money are, in my mind (and sorry to be blunt) full of s**t. They are all very friendly and promise a lot until they get your money and then you never hear from them again. It just seems to be a festival of greed and I want no part of it.

You were different John, and along with Randy, the only one I would ever approach again.

That sort of saddens me, the fact someone is so disgusted with the Internet Marketing scene that they have gotten out of it altogether.

Rob feels he has been let down by so many marketers online that he’s had enough, and can you blame him when all we get is a bunch of crap thrown at us every single day. In fact I bet if you looked at the last 100 emails you have received from marketers 99% would be hype filled pitches and most of the products getting pitched will be the usual hype filled crap.

IT HAS TO STOP! I personally believe over time it will stop as some marketers are suffering big style. I have heard reports of marketers losing their Aweber accounts because of complaints, marketers struggling to keep afloat as they can’t make sales anymore. People un-subscribing in their thousands and launches failing to make enough money to pay out the JV prize money because their last product had an 80% refund rate.

WELL THEY SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THAT BEFORE CREATING AND SENDING CRAP TO THEIR MOST VALUABLE ASSET, THEIR SUBSCRIBERS.

Maybe if they stopped using actors on their sales pages, actually completed the product before launching it, provided support and made sure the product delivered value the IM Industry wouldn’t be in this mess right now. So don’t fall into the trap of thinking the way these guys market is the way to go because it’s not.

Promoting an ethical product.

You may recall last week I promoted the Internet Marketing Apprentice. (IMA) Guess how much I’ve earned so far?

Nothing… zip… nada….

This was because I worked with Randy and Craig to give my most valuable asset, my subscribers the best deal possible. This was an exclusive $1 trial with a very very low monthly payment if they were happy with IMA. I may earn a few dollars in recurring billing sales but that’s not why I promoted IMA. I promoted IMA because it gives real value to people that want to get started online. I also tried to educate my subscribers about the whole sales process so even if they didn’t buy they would still learn something.

I could have promoted the latest hyped up 6 click piece of garbage with some hippy, a guy in a private jet or even an ex stripper selling the product and made a ton of extra sales (although most sales would have been refunded) but I’d rather give value, it’s not about the affiliate earnings, it’s about providing value and that’s how it should be with you.

Give and you shall receive!

Guess what else I did last week? I held my first office visit as part of my Killer Content bonus. Dave Taylor drove 4 hours to visit me at my office, we discussed his business in great detail and he left my office with a plan, all free of charge.

Give your most valued assets your time and help them as much as you possibly can and they will want to work (and spend money) with you.

Email open rates have plunged, click through rates are down, marketers with huge lists are wondering why no one seems to buy anything via their affiliate links anymore, no one wants to promote anything, it’s all doom and gloom.

Or is it?

There’s a chance you may have noticed a drop in response from your emails, but ask yourself this question, how many marketers lists have you un-subscribed from or how many marketers emails do you simply ignore as you check your emails on a daily basis? I know I have started to ignore many emails that come into my inbox from a customer point of view.

Now ask yourself this, how many marketers who you have either unsubscribed from or who’s emails you ignore send you promo after promo without giving you any real value.

Is there a pattern? I bet there is!

The reason email open rates have plunged is because people are sick of all the crap that’s getting pumped into their in-boxes everyday and they know most emails are simply promoting the latest and greatest product of the day.

If you are guilty of promoting crap every single day then you will probably fail, and to be honest you deserve it for treating your subscribers like an ATM.

Look! The only way to get your emails opened is to stand out and be different and make your subscribers want to open your emails.

So how can we do this?

First of all treat your subscribers with the respect they deserve, after all they took the effort to opt-in to your mailing list and you should do everything in your power to keep them on it, and more importantly make them want to open your emails. The best way to do this is to build a relationship with your subscribers, also, make sure each email you send is not a pitch fest, make sure you give value, make sure you promote products you believe in and not the latest crappy product of the day that you haven’t even reviewed. Also, when you do promote a product be honest about it, don’t hype it up and tell your subscribers how it’s going to change their lives.

Most marketers are getting it completely wrong in their email marketing, this is why their open rates have plunged.

Here’s are 3 typical examples of bad email marketing that you definitely shouldn’t be doing.

Email Marketing Mistake 1.
Sending irrelevant subject lines in an attempt to ‘trick’ your subscribers into opening your emails, believe me if you do this your subscriber is gone. You know the kind of subject lines I am talking about, lines such as:-

Affiliate Sale Generated.
Followed by, ‘You could be generating tons of affiliate sales.’

Notification of Payment Received (This is a bad one)
Followed by, ‘Wouldn’t you like to receive emails like that?’

Call Your Bank Manager!
Followed by, ‘Because he’s going to wonder what’s going on when all this cash hits your bank account.’

I’m sure you get the picture.

Make sure you use proper subject lines and never ever try to trick someone into opening your email because if you do it will probably be the last email of yours they open. We hate being made to look a fool and this is exactly what this practice does. Sure, you can add a bit of intrigue into your subject line to make your reader want to open to find out more but if they feel like they have been tricked then they will probably be gone for good.

Email Marketing Mistake 2.
Hyping the crap out of a product. We see this every single day, we are told that this is the one, the product that will finally answer all our prayers and all it will take is 6 clicks of your mouse, (I wonder if a product will ever come along that takes one click ) this is the greatest product that’s ever been launched on the Internet and we must buy it right now. Then the next day another email from the same marketer arrives. We are told that this is the one, the product that will finally answer all our prayers….

You get the picture don’t you?

Why oh why oh why do these marketers treat us like 3 year olds, do they really think we are that gullible? Well actually they do or they wouldn’t keep sending the crap they do day in day out, but if you are guilty of the same thing then wise up.

I actually know of a very high profile marketer who I respect. He is big enough that he speaks on stage and has hosted a few workshops. However his emails are so hypey that I cringe when I read them. I’ve also noticed that I’ve never seen his name on a JV leaderboard, even though he promotes a lot of the big launches. I wonder why

Look, all you need to do is highlight the benefits of any product, keep it short and sweet. Just explain what the product will do and how it will help them. Simple and highly effective.

Email Marketing Mistake 3.
Not building a relationship with your subscribers. It actually took me a while to realize how important this is. While I am not saying you have to tell your subscribers everything about you, you should let them into your life a little. If you have been on my mailing list for any amount of time you will know what I look like, what I sound like, how I got started online, that I used to work in a car plant, that I spend most weekends at my holiday home, that I have 2 sons who now work for me, because of this you may trust me more than a marketer you know nothing about.

Let your subscribers into your life a little and they will learn to trust you. Two marketers who do this brilliantly are Randy Smith and Martin Avis. Get on their lists and you can learn a lot about relationship building.

I could go on and on but I think this blog post has got long enough. I’ll probably do a follow up post in a few weeks time but if you take anything away from this blog post it is this.

Let your subscribers into your life a little and treat them with the respect they deserve, after all, without them your business is nothing.

That is the physical CD version sold to the eBay crowd, people browsing eBay may come across that product and decide to buy, notice the low cost and free shipping option to encourage sales, but what about people who maybe don’t browse eBay or don’t want to wait for a physical product to arrive in the mail?

So now we have 2 versions of the same product online, what else can we do?

So is there anything else I could do? Well I could create a ‘lite PDF’ version of my product and give it away to build my list. Maybe even drive some traffic to my freebie via a Warrior Special Offer, check out my free WSO here. I could also add my freebie to a few giveaway events such as this one or maybe do some ad swaps.

Because I want as many people to consume my product as possible I also offer resale rights and even branding rights so it goes viral and the traffic from the actual product is generated on autopilot.

Remember! This is all from one product, and there’s so much more I could do. I could convert my product into a physical book, maybe even create an audio version by recording myself or someone else reading the eBook out loud. I could add more material to it such as video training to create a full on home study course. I could even create slides from the product and hold a ‘PowerSeller Workshop’ and charge people to attend, and of course the workshops would be recorded to give me yet another product…

You are only limited by your imagination. So if you have any products out there that are simply not performing as they should or as they used to, see if changing the format helps. Remember that everyone is different, some people like training videos while some prefer to read. Some may prefer to read it on a Kindle while some prefer a physical book, some people love attending workshops and seminars while others prefer to stay at home and watch online. Cater for as many different people as possible by creating your products in multiple formats and you will sell more. Period!
